The ten Cape Verde Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean more or less half way between Portugal and Brazil, have been attracting foreign property buyers for a few years now.
And it’s still easy to see the attraction.
The Cape Verde Islands offer holidaymaker’s all year round good weather in which to appreciate the beauty of the beaches and the scenery of the inland areas - in an still unspoilt environment. The islands have been described as the ‘new’ Canaries, being just a few hundred miles south of that long-popular archipelago and sharing a similar volcanic nature. Being that much closer to the Equator, however, adds 10 to the winter temperatures of the Cape Verde group.
Since the islands began to attract tourism in greater numbers, the infrastructure, previously extremely basic, has developed accordingly. There are still some rudimentary roads in outlying areas, but the major islands have made giant strides in a short time.
It is true to suggest that the days when one could buy really cheap property or land and then quickly move it on at a profit have passed but the islands are still much cheaper than buying in the Canaries and long-term investors can anticipate good rewards. The island authorities, working with the major developers, are also ensuring that the developments taking place are carefully monitored so that they are environmentally suitable. The high-rise holiday hells will not come to Cape Verde!
Sal remains the island of choice for most foreign buyers, although some of the other islands are beginning to establish good reputations as well. There are still some parcels of land available for purchasers, new build, and also holiday homes that were built a few years ago and have now come on to the market. There is an abundance of choice available to you.
If you do decide to buy in the Cape Verde Islands, then you need to be very aware of the processes involved - especially if, as is most likely, you are going to be away from the islands for much of the time during the purchase. Its a good idea to get in touch with an expert in Cape Verde Mortgages such as International Mortgage Solutions.
