An interactive CD called the Green Info Guide: A Toolbox for Environmental Best Management Practices in Washtenaw County, was updated by the Washtenaw County Department of Planning and Environment and the Washtenaw County Consortium for Solid Waste Management. Originally developed in 2006, the CD gives Washtenaw County’s residents useful information about local solid waste and recycling services. It also encourages residents to adopt a practical approach to managing hazardous and yard waste as well as how to practice energy efficiency.
Washtenaw County’s Department of Planning and Environment is a local government agency that extends quality services in the fields of planning, building inspection, and environmental health services.
Washtenaw County has chosen to adopt an approach to environmental education that is able to attract even the younger generation. Using a technological instrument like an interactive CD makes the practice more interesting and enticing.
Another incentive is that the residents can get the CD for free. They don’t have to spend a single cent in order to become properly educated about safe environmental practices.
As always, the best way to make an impact is to gain interest and attention. Washtenaw County’s strategy is a conscious effort towards this goal. Eventually, this practice will grow and spread across the nation.
