You may be wondering why you should consider becoming a Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) in California: legal assistants or paralegals in California, rank in the top 100 professions, which is an intriguing employment trend. Paralegal profession is projected to be the fastest growing occupation in California and will grow faster in California than in any other US state.

You can set apart yourself from other applicants by obtaining either the Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) or Registered Paralegal (RP) certifications. If you want using the CLA title, you must first: pass a two day exam given by the Certifying Board of Legal Assistance, and know the standards of the National Association of Legal Assistants.

If you have a certification you can work as a Certified Legal Assistant or a CLA in California. You can obtain the CAS certification through sitting for and passing a four-hour test in your chosen field of specialization: Business and Organizations, Estates and Trusts, Family Law, Civil Litigation, or Real Estate. Certification is renewable every five years. Within a five-year period, you need to demonstrate that you successfully completed 70 hours of valid continuing education credits in the legal field, or your certification will not be renewed.
